Crimson Swan - (2012 - 2015) [ Full Discography] - Bandcamp Stream

The roots of the band date back to a vacation in 2010, that Robert, Simon and Marcos spent in a lonely forest cottage in North Rhine-Westphalia. Inspired by this gloomy and forlorn place “When Angels Fall” was written, which should mark the first song of Crimson Swan.

Fueled by the positive responses to the demo-version of said song, more tunes were concocted, until the EP “Icon” could be recorded with the help of session musicians.

Although initially planned as a studio project, first gig inquiries came with the release of “Icon”. A few months and the joining of Jakob (Bass) and Martin (Drums) later, Crimson Swan found themselves playing the first shows. Til today they had the pleasure of sharing the stage with great bands like Saturnus, Shape Of Despair, Officium Triste, Mournful Congregation, Ophis, Ataraxie and many more.

After a video for an early version of “Accusations” which came out in late 2013, the band took some time off to finish their first full-length album.

“Unlit” was released in early 2015 via Quality Steel Records and was met with a very positive response from fans and critics.

Blending atmospheric Death-Doom with oppressive Funeral Doom parts and haunting melodies, Crimson Swan from Hamburg (Germany) deliver music that every friend of the slower paces should definitely lend an ear!

Although sharing the mood with bands like Swallow The Sun, Saturnus, Officium Triste and Shape Of Despair, Crimson Swan yet managed to develop their own note with only an EP and the  full-length debut “Unlit”.

Plaintive leads and elegiac keys form a solemn symbiosis with a slowly crushing rhythm section, topped off by the interplay of wistful clean-vocals and brutal growls. Doom or be doomed!

Media Praise on "Unlit":

The band demonstrates how white space in music can be used to increase tension, but have compositions that also exemplify the importance of the resolution of that tension and the power of dynamics. Unlit‘s music is dynamic2, depressive—gothic, even—and filled with sorrow, longing and anxiety. Crimson Swan is a band to watch, and I’ll be following their developments with great interest. - Angry Metal Guy (Rating 3.5/5)

Crimson Swan’s ‘Unlit’ is an ambitious debut that has masterful moments, but is blighted by mawkish sentimentalism. - DoomMetalHeaven (Rating 6/10)

Musically, even using very songs, the musical side is enriched by changes in tempos and on riffs, the best songs of the album are melodic and introspective, elegant and depressive, very deeper and well worked . The album is very good as a whole. Metal Temple (Rating Almost Perfect)

Media Praise of "Icon" reached an average of 8/10 points in world wide reviews.

"... it would be so good to revel in sounds of such a classy work much, much longer ..." - 8/10 - metal.de
